The story behind Curry Station

This blog is an attempt at maintaining a record of almost everything, if not everything, that I cook. I am Indian and enjoy cooking all types of food. I absolutely love the fact that I can marry ingredients to create exotic flavors. The name of this blog came about because of the culmination of two things I adore – travel and food! I have traveled to 12 countries….and counting! The things that excite me most about traveling are people and food πŸ™‚ Most of my friends enjoy the different curries that I make, so I knew curry had to be a part of the name. The word ‘station’ reminds of the railway and bus stations in Bombay, the city I grew up in. The one thing I missed most when I moved to America, besides my family, was public transport. It drove me crazy that I could not hop on a bus or a train and get to wherever I wanted. Now, after the passage of time, I have resigned myself to the fact that I need a car to get around most cities in the U.S.

I have enjoyed cooking as far as I can remember. My love affair with cooking began in India, but got more passionate after I moved to America. I now not only enjoy cooking, but also feeding people! I find it very difficult to cook a meal for two. I almost always have leftovers. Β The most I have cooked is for a 100 people πŸ™‚ Cooking is a de-stressor for me. I am an innovative and thrifty cook. I try making use of all the ingredients that I buy and try very hard not to waste food. It’s something I grew up with, something that was deeply ingrained in me. I also never waste any food on my plate for the very same reason. I know that food is plentiful in America and I have seen it wasted far too many times. I have, however, also seen many people who go hungry and know the value of each meal that they have. It makes me grateful for everything God has provided and I am determined to never forget that.

Lastly, I very rarely follow recipes to the t. I love googling recipes and following some blogs. If ever any of my recipes are inspired by a fellow blogger I will give them due credit. I also randomly ask my mom for her recipes. My mom is the first cook who inspired me. I learnt by watching and emulating. This is my first attempt at recipe blogging. I have maintained a personal blog before for almost 3-4 years. I discontinued it after starting my doctoral journey. I do hope to continue this blog though! I hope you can try some of these recipes, even though the ingredients might seem strange at times. Cheers!!
